Launch Key will run on any PowerPC-based computer, including the iMac. It takes full
advantage of, but does not require, Apple's new Navigation Services, a replacement for the Standard
File package used to open and save files in Mac OS versions 8.1 and earlier. Navigation Services
is included with Mac OS 9, and can be downloaded from Apple's website for earlier versions of
system software.
Similarly, Launch Key also requires the Appearance Manager, which is included with any version
of Mac OS 8 (but not bundled with Launch Key). Because of this, the recommended minimum system
is Mac OS 8.0. However, if you are more technically oriented, you may download the Appearance
SDK from Apple's developer web site, and install the Appearance
extension and control panel. Note that TriVectus does not provide technical support for this
procedure. Also, because we no longer test under System 7.x, we cannot make any statements
regarding the stability of our software under that system (though we would not expect any
problems with Launch Key). Also, Launch Key was developed on and is fully compatible with Mac
OS 9.
Launch Key 4 includes an installation application that will automatically place Launch Key's
components in the System Folder. To install Launch Key 4 manually, place "Launch Key 4.0" in the
Extensions folder and "Launch Key Control" in the Control Panels folder. Launch Key must be in the
Extensions folder for Launch Key Control to be able to start and stop it and also so that the Finder
launches it on startup. Launch Key's plugins are located in System Folder: Application Support in
a folder named "Launch Key Plugins". They must be located here, or Launch Key will not be able to
find them.
IMPORTANT
Launch Key 4 does not create any default actions. In order to be able to use Launch Key
you must first add sets, of actions, in Launch Key Control. Refer to the
section How to Use Launch Key for an explanation on how to add
plugin actions.
