Admin Overview
Admin is where all configuration of SuperLock Pro takes place. While the installer places it in the Control Panels folder, it may be moved to and used from anywhere, even from another volume across the network--so long as it is run on the computer being configured. This allows it to be removed from a machine for maximum security.
Immediately after installation, no login is required when Admin is opened (see Getting Started); however, subsequent launches will require a login via the following window:
Once logged in, you will be greeted with the following window:
This is the main window. It's divided into three sections: the users list on the left, the user setup buttons in the right-top section, and the preferences setup buttons in the right-bottom area.
The users list lists the names of users. When the super-admin user is logged in, it shows all users; when an admin user is logged in, it shows just normal users. A user may be edited by double-clicking its name in the list.
The user setup section is comprised of four buttons: Edit User, New User, Delete User, and Duplicate User. See the appropriate section for more information.
The preferences setup section is comprised of three buttons: Client Prefs (which allows you to set preferences for client text items, invalid logins, username presentation, and screen saver), Log Prefs, and Security. See the appropriate section for more information.
In addition to setting up users and configuring preferences, Admin is used to start and stop Overseer. To start Overseer, select Activate Overseer from the File menu; to stop it, select Deactivate Overseer from the File menu. Note that if you stop Overseer, it will start again automatically on the next restart.
The most common need to stop Overseer is to run an installer that needs to quit all applications. If an installer tries to do this while Overseer is running, Overseer will lock the hard drive and the installer will be unable to do its thing (when unauthorized people are attempting to install something, this is a good thing). Quitting Overseer with Admin before attempting to do the install gets around this.
Note that some features, like hot key activation and shut down logging, are disabled while Overseer is not running, so it's a good idea to start it back up as soon as possible when a need arises to quit it.
