The On and Off buttons in the Finder Item Protection window are disabled, preventing you from toggling the feature on or off.

Discussion

You must be logged into Admin as the super-admin user for these buttons to be enabled. When an admin user logs in, they are disabled to avoid a potential security hole wherein Admin users could gain access to files and folders that they're not supposed to see.

Unfortunately, this restriction was inadvertently left out of the documentation in version 4.5.0.

Solution

To toggle Finder Item Protection on or off, simply log in as the super-admin user. This restriction has been properly documented in version 4.5.1 and later.
