Client Quits at Screen Saver Activation

Manifestation

Instead of the screen saver properly activating in Client after a period of time, Client unexpectedly quits, perhaps with a Type 25 error.

Discussion

This problem typically happens when you're running your monitor at a higher resolution than 1280x1024, and sometimes at lower resolutions if you're running in 32-bit color. The problem is simply that Client is running out of memory--running at deep bit-depths and/or at high resolutions requires a large amount of memory for graphics display.

Solution

To correct this problem, select Client in the Finder, and choose the Get Info command from the File menu. In the Memory section of the window, increase the Preferred size by 500 KB. Try Client, and see if the screen saver properly activates. If it doesn't, increase the memory again, repeating as necessary until the screen saver works.
